Thomas ‘Tommy Gun’ Oosthuizen will appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court again today (April 26) in connection with the drugs possession charge he is facing.
The professional Van Dyk Park boxer, who celebrated his 30th birthday on April 2, has been in prison since he was arrested in Boksburg North on February 3.
Investigations into the case have been concluded by the state and when he appeared in court again on Monday (April 23) the case was again postponed to allow Oosthuizen’s legal aid attorney to confer with his client.
His incarceration has dashed his hopes of an international and a local comeback fight and seen Golden Gloves boss Rodney Berman welcome him back into the fold and then cut him loose again, following Berman signing him to get into the ring with Thabiso Mchunu on July 23.
Oosthuizen also pleaded with the court on February 26 to release him on bail so that he could prepare for a comeback fight in the UK on April 16.
But bail has not been forthcoming and the wayward sports star remains behind bars at Boksburg Correctional Services.
He has an assault (with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm) case pending in the Brakpan Magistrate’s Court relating to an incident after a fight he won at Carnival City on April 28, last year, and was convicted on a malicious damage to property case late last year.
