Hostage drama at Jet Park security company

The matter was handled as a private dispute and resolved peacefully, therefore no criminal docket was opened.

A hostage drama played out at a security company in Jet Park yesterday (April 18), at about 6pm.

According to Boksburg North police spokesperson Captain Juanita Coetzer, about 150 angry security guards held members of management hostage while demanding their pay and pension pay-outs after the security company apparently lost a contract at OR Tambo International Airport.

“The East Rand Crime Combating Unit reacted to the scene,” said Coetzer.

She said one person claimed to have been assaulted and was treated on scene by paramedics.

No other injuries were reported.

“The National Transport Movement, National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa and the South African Transport and Allied Workers Union were on the scene,” said Coetzer.

“No shots were fired and no arrests were made.”
