Talented knitters boost Advertiser’s wool drive
The Advertiser staff have decided to hand the knitted items over to Boksburg Round Table, in honour of tabler Charl Schöltz who died on April 6.
The Advertiser’s “Wool You Help Us” drive has received an unexpected – and very welcome – boost.
Yesterday (April 17), Morganridge resident Noleen Braaf dropped off a donation of beanies and scarves knitted by her 90-year-old mom, Daphne Braaf.
Noleen explained that her mom, who lives in Durban, is an avid knitter and is currently completing a beanie every two days!
She celebrated her 90th birthday on January 12 and instead of guests giving her gifts, Noleen gave each guest a ball of wool and knitting needles, so that they could also get into the knitting swing of things.
Daphne’s handiwork made its way to Boksburg and Noleen has given the items to the Advertiser to donate as the newspaper sees fit.
“I saw the appeal for wool donations in the Advertiser,” she said.
“We had been trying to find a school or organisation which could distribute the beanies and scarves to the needy but had no luck. I then decided to leave the items in the Advertiser’s care.”
Round Table will ensure the donation reaches the less fortunate in Boksburg.

Where to drop your wool donations:
* Caxton Local Media (20 Sydney Road, Ravenswood)
