Twenty-nine metro clinics have extended their operating hours in order to broaden residents’ access to healthcare services.
Metro spokesperson Themba Gadebe said five more clinics have been earmarked to be added to those that operate for 24 hours and 12 hours a day.
The extended-hour healthcare facilities for Saturdays (8am to 2pm) in Boksburg include Boksburg Civic Centre Clinic, Reiger Park Clinic, Dawn Park Clinic and Vosloorus Poly Clinic.
Gadebe added that the construction of another 10 state-of-the-art healthcare facilities is in the planning phase.
“There are currently 94 primary healthcare facilities in Ekurhuleni. The services offered at the 24-hour and 12-hour facilities include but are not limited to child healthcare services, immunisation, maternal health, management of acute and chronic illnesses, mental health service as well as HIV counselling and testing,” Gadebe said.
“These extended-hour facilities also render allied health services, such as rehabilitation services and dental health and maternity services where there is a midwife obstetric unit on site,”
Jabulane Dumane Community Health Centre in Vosloorus will offer a 24-hour service.
