Boksburg North market set to buzz with activity
Taking place on April 7, in and around Second Street, the market is the first of its kind for the area and is part of a bigger plan to turn Boksburg North into a tourism hub.
The organisers of the Boksburg North Aerotropolis Food and Craft Market have been inundated with enquiries and support for the initiative.
“My phone has been ringing off the hook,” said market organiser Ingrid Lombaard.
“People are very excited and we hope what will transpire on April 7 is going to be something to remember – something that will put Boksburg North on the map.”
The market is the brainchild of Beric Tempest, CEO of Functions Incorporated, who, along with his team, wants to boost Boksburg North’s image and, over time, turn the area into a bustling tourist destination.
What to expect
One of the highlights of the market is water collection for Cape Town and Gift of the Givers will be there to put all the donations onto a truck.
Visitors are urged to bring a donation of bottled water to the event.
The Fortys MCC and Arc Warriors motorcycle clubs are also supporting the event with water donations and motorcycle clubs from other areas will be popping in throughout the day.
“We have a wonderful variety of handmade crafts, including clocks, stained glass and wood art, paintings, jewellery and homemade deli products,” said Lombaard.
“Our food vendors will cater to every taste – Mexican, Portuguese, Indian and good old vetkoek, soup and melkkos too. Those with a sweet tooth must visit the tea garden to indulge in a variety of gourmet cakes and tarts.”
The streets will be turned into a café atmosphere with tables, chairs and umbrellas with live music by Collin and plenty to keep the children busy too, like a win and spin wheel and face painting.
The market will also offer a beer tent and full bar service.
A lucky draw will take place on the day in which two visitors can each win a weekend breakaway for two, including dinner, bed and breakfast.
“We are very excited about this first Boksburg North community market and look forward to welcoming visitors from near and far,” Lombaard said.
The market takes place from 9am to 3pm. Entrance is free and parking will be available at the Boksburg North Indoor Swimming Pool.
The next Aerotropolis Food and Craft Market will take place on May 5 and will have a Mother’s Day theme.
