The case against a Sunward Park man accused of brutally stabbing a female Uber driver was on February 27 postponed to April 17 for further investigation and DNA evidence results.
Jacques Henry Scharneck (29) appeared before a magistrate in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court via video link from Boksburg Correctional Services.
He is accused of stabbing the 42-year-old Uber driver three times on December 26, last year, after she picked him up in Reiger Park and was driving him to Sandton.
En route, in Lied Road, Sunward Park, at about 10.25pm, he allegedly pulled out a knife and forced her to stop the car.
The woman was stabbed in the head, back and throat and, once outside the vehicle, Sharneck allegedly took the wheel and tried to drive over her.
Shortly after seeking help at a nearby house, the woman lost consciousness and was eventually taken to hospital.
Her blue Hyundai Elantra was recovered by police hours later (early hours of December 27) in Boksburg North – with Scharneck in it.
He was arrested, bail was denied and he has been remanded in custody ever since.
Scharneck, who was on parole for a rape conviction at the time of his arrest, is facing a charge of robbery with aggravating circumstances and two charges of attempted murder.
