Dawn Park teen may finally get his ID

Kgotlelelo’s ID application is apparently one of many stuck in the pipeline at the processing office, because of record and verification checks in the Home Affairs National Identification System (HANIS).

Dawn Park’s Kgotlelelo Maphake (17) may soon have his identity document after struggling for more than a year to get the Department of Home Affairs to process it.

In a story published on the Advertiser’s website (www.boksburgadvertiser.co.za) on February 2,

Kgotlelelo’ father, Mofiti Maphake, said he has been battling since 2016 to help his son obtain his identity document.

The Advertiser approached the department for comment on the issue and officials admitted that they were experiencing some difficulties in processing Kgotlelelo’s smart ID card, adding they were doing their best to resolve the problem.

Department of Home Affairs’ Derick Madiatla said his office is currently working with their head office, which deals with smart ID card processing, to ensure that Kgotlelelo gets his identity document.

Madiatla apologised for the delay in processing Kgotleleolo’s identity document. -@MthuphaFanie
