Police on the look-out for suspect who killed a man

Victim was at the time of the shooting on his way home

A 57-year-old man was gunned down while walking along one of the shack-lined pathways in Delmore informal settlement on Sunday night, January 21.

According to Reiger Park SAPS spokesperson Sgt Mashudu Phathela, the victim, Velaphi Myeni, who lived a few metres from where he was shot, was on his way home at about 10.35pm when he was ambushed.

“Someone approached him and opened fire, striking him twice in his lower back and left shoulder.

“He was pronounced dead at the scene,” said Phathela.

None of his personal belongings were taken during the attack.

Although the motive for the killing remains unclear at this stage, investigators suspect that the attack was premeditated.

The killer is still at large and the Reiger Park police are asking anyone with information on this case to contact them on 011 916 7000. -@MthuphaFanie
