Child Welfare commemorates World Aids Day

The Child Welfare Society of Greater Boksburg joined the rest of the world in commemorating World Aids Day on Friday, December 1.

The occasion. which was held in Vosloorus. also served as the launch of the organisation’s 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children.

A group of participants including Child Welfare staff, SAPS members and community members dominated by women and children, marched through the streets of the township chanting anti-violence slogans and songs about ways to reduce the risk of HIV infection.

Speaking at the event, Child Welfare board member Vusimuzi Majola urged community members to play a proactive role in creating awareness of HIV and Aids as well as violence against women and children.

He called upon all organisations to unite in the fight against violence and HIV and Aids.

Majola revealed that the organisation will soon launch a programme aimed at encouraging people to speak out against violence in their respective communities. -@FanieFLK
