Sunward Lifestyle Centre takes proactive approach to reduce crime
Management of the Sunward Park Lifestyle Centre said they are aware of the ever-increasing crime rate in the area and the fact that criminals have targeted the shopping mall as well.

Like other business and residential areas in Sunward Park, the shopping centre has for the past couple of months seen intermittent theft of and from motor vehicles, robbery and scammers targeting shoppers.
“A number of initiatives have been implemented at the centre to curb crime and to ensure a happy and safe environment for all visitors,” said the centre manager, who wished only to be identified as Delores.
Proactive measures were taken
· An extensive CCTV system has been implemented and expanded to ensure that the parking areas, as well as the shop fronts, are covered.
· Additional manpower has been deployed, in relation to the trolley assistants, who in conjunction with the security company become our eyes and ears on the ground.
· Additional security personnel has been deployed to aid in the visible policing of the centre.
· Additional visits have been scheduled by the security company supervisors and management – again, with the sole aim of increasing visibility.
· Special attention is given to prevention activities (such as car windows and doors left open).
· A close relationship has been developed with the local SAPS who regularly visit the centre and are encouraged to spend as much time as possible in the centre.
· In conjunction with the SAPS initiated Malls Security group, information about criminal activities and levels are shared and acted upon.
· Lastly, a crime awareness campaign was initiated and invited to our centre to raise awareness of criminal activities in the Sunward Park area and to assist in bringing that awareness to the community which we support.
