Murder accused remanded in custody

The man accused of killing another man in Joe Slovo informal settlement made his first court appearance in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court and was remanded in custody.

He appeared on Tuesday, last week (November 14), and the matter was postponed to Wednesday (November 22), for a formal bail application.

Quick-thinking members of the newly formed Reiger Park Crime Intelligence Unit arrested the suspect on Sunday, November 12, in connection with the murder of a man who was gunned down in his shack the previous day.

The deceased, Skhumbuzo Dyani (34), was shot twice in the head and died on the scene.

Police confirmed they found five spent cartridges and two projectiles on the scene.

An intelligence-driven operation was launched and resulted in the arrest of the 36-year-old man in Joe Slovo informal settlement.

According to Reiger Park SAPS spokesperson Sgt Mashudu Phathela, police officers found the accused inside his shack, where they also found a 9mm pistol with its serial number filed off, nine live rounds and 37 projectiles.

The suspect is facing charges of murder and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. -@FanieFLK
