Construction worker dies after being hit by car in Bardene

A road construction worker died after he was struck by a car at the site where he was working, on the corner of Bartlett and North Rand roads, Bardene, this morning (November 1).

Preliminary reports obtained by police officers at the scene indicate that two cars collided at the intersection, resulting in one of them ramming into the road construction barricades and hitting the worker.
The worker sustained fatal injuries and was later declared dead at the scene.
One of the cars involved, a white Polo, was reportedly heading westbound towards the East Rand Mall, while the other car, a Hyundai, was turning into Bartlett Road when the crash occurred.

EMS, paramedics and traffic officials were at the scene within minutes to tend to the injured and control traffic.

According to EMS spokesperson Dain Jones, the driver of the Polo sustained minor bruises and the driver of the Hyundai was transported to Life The Glynnwood Hospital.

Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
