Watch: Boksburg bowling attack shines in derby
Boksburg Cricket Club captain Adam Forbes thanked his side’s bowling line-up with an unbeaten half century as the visitors put on a show to defeat CBC Old Boys in their own backyard during their Eastern Cricket T20 clash.
The Pool B encounter took place on October 15.
Forbes justified his decision of electing to bowl first following the pre-match coin toss with his total of 61 complementing a clinical bowling performance by his troops to limit the hosts to 113 in their allotted overs.
Wicket-keeper Kane Horwell shared the stand with Forbes as he ended with an undefeated 23 to take the PG Park outfit over the line for the five-wicket win.
Old Boys struggled for momentum behind the crease, largely because of Chris Opperman, Calvin Birnie and Bryce Parsons, who led Boksburg’s bowling.
Opperman also took the wicket of Jadin Liebenberg – Old Boys’ top scorer on the day with 26 – with a beautiful delivery which toppled the stumps.
Opperman and Birnie both took hat-tricks with respective numbers of 3/25 and 3/30 – both in four overs. The latter in the leading bowling triumvirate also took just four overs to finish with 2/9.
Commenting on his knock of half a ton, Forbes said: “I just told myself to bat positively and rotate the strike. My bowlers made the job easier because chasing 113 didn’t put pressure on the batsmen.”
Old Boys’ Craig Parker also deserves mention with his 2/24 in four overs performance with the leather.
Boksburg completed the chase with 117/5 inside 18 overs.
What the skippers had to say
“We had our full team – four players came back into the team and they made a big difference in the dynamics of the team. Our bowlers did an outstanding job in keeping them to 113 and that made it a lot easier for the batsmen to chase.” – Adam Forbes. (The Boksburg returnees were Bryce Parsons, Ahkter ‘Razza’ Rasul, Matthew Hollard and Birnie).
“Boksburg played well and deserve their win. We just never scored enough runs on a good wicket and Adam [Forbes] played a great captain’s knock.” – Casey Arnold. – @SabeloBoksburg
