
According to Ekurhuleni Emergency Services spokesman William Ntladi, all the relevant departments were part of the planning for any eventualities that might occur because of any adverse weather conditions.
“Some of the flooding hot spots has been identified and monitoring there of taken into considerations by the leading department. One of the identified major contributing factors for flooding is the blockage of the stormwater drainage systems,” Ntladi said.
The metro pleads with the residents to refrain from littering.
“Meaningful disposal of waste material, building rubble and removal of dry vegetations from the roofs and gutters are some of the contributing factors which necessitate to unnecessary blockages and subsequently, result in flash floods.”
He said the DEMS is on high alert and will continually engaged with South African Weather Services (SAWS) throughout the raining season.
Alerts will be communicated through various available media platforms in keeping the residents of Ekurhuleni conversant.
