Comet Village, New Married Quarters to get legal power

Illegal power connections remain rife in Boksburg.

The Ekurhuleni metro is close to implementing an electrification project in Comet Village and the New Married Quarters which will include an operation to remove the illegal connections.

According to the Ekurhuleni metro spokesperson, Themba Gadebe, residents will be informed about the execution of the plan and affected areas will be communicated to should the project cause any service interruptions.

If you drive through Comet Village and the area called New Married Quarters, illegally connected electricity cables are evident everywhere. Here you see a cable running across the road from the railway station (on the left).

The Advertiser recently published an article online (September 20) under the headline “Shocking theft of electricity in Comet Village, New Married Quarters” which highlighted the prevalence of illegal electricity connections in these areas.

Ward 33 Clr Ashley Hoods told the Advertiser it wouldn’t surprise him if metro officials or contractors were assisting with the illegal connections for a fee.
