EMPD arrest 18 for driving under the influence
The Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department (EMPD) Freeway Unit were out in full force over the past weekend on the prowl for those who chose to drive under the influence of alcohol, according to EMPD spokesperson chief superintendent Wilfred Kgasago.

The special operation was conducted between Friday, September 15, and Sunday, September 17, between 4pm and midnight and focused on vehicles travelling on the N3, in both directions, between the Barry Marais and Leondale turnoffs.
Ten drivers were arrested on Friday, six on Saturday and two on Sunday.
Sixteen were detained at Vosloorus Police Station and two at Alberton Police Station.
All were charged with driving while under the influence of alcohol and are expected to appear in court soon.
