Boksburg SAPS spokesperson Sgt Cebisa Maseko confirmed the investigation is underway.
The mother of the child reported the matter to police after she fetched the child from the crèche and discovered she was complaining of pain in her private parts.
Upon questioning, the child reportedly told the mother that someone put his finger inside her private parts.
Maseko added that the investigation is at an early stage and is of a sensitive nature, saying she is not in a position to comment further.
“Even though it is a rare criminal behaviour to be reported at a crèche in our policing precinct, I would like to encourage parents to always monitor the state of their children and immediately report anything suspicious that points to child abuse, to the police. -@Fanie FLK
