A new interim board for Van Dyk Park’s security body

A new interim board for the Community Patrollers Initiative (CPI) in Van Dyk Park was recently appointed during a community meeting held at the Van Dyk Park Dam.

The CPI is under the CPF umbrella and their role is to keep Van Dyk Park a crime free area.

The newly elected board members will serve for six months during which they will assist the management of the CPI to better their services so they can keep the community safe.

During this period they will rally the support of the community. Another election will take place after the six month period to establish the board for the next three to five years.

Morne Boshoff, CPI public relations officer highlighted that a new board is appointed every three to five years.

“The vision of the current board includes ramping up the community security through road closures to minimise the entry and exit points in Van Dyk Park.

“We would like to have the area under 24-hour video surveillance in our control room. Lastly, we would like to reach a stage where all residents of Van Dyk Park feel safe and secure in their own area,” Boshoff said.

The CPI’s mission is to have 1 400 active households be part of the initiative and get more volunteers to actively patrol the streets of Van Dyk Park.

The CPI also aims to build a sustainable relationship with the SAPS and various security companies in Van Dyk Park.

“We thank the previous board for their dedication and hard work during the last two terms and for their continued support,” Boshoff said.

According to DA ward Clr Jackie Reilly, the DA commends the community of Van Dyk Park for being active citizens.

“We welcome the new executive of the CPI who will help keep community members safe, as no South Africans should work or live in fear. Efforts are underway to enhance the pro-active interactions with the SAPS and the ward councillor.

“Together we will actively engage with residents and the CPI to enhance community involvement and to foster community safety,” Reilly said.

The residents of Van Dyk Park are urged to attend a public meeting at Laerskool Van Dyk Primary School, on August 12. The meeting will start at 10am.

Points for discussion will include road closures, surveillance cameras, CPI versus CPF and the CPI’s vision.
