Bogus cops rob motorists in Boksburg

Disguised as police officers, two armed men robbed a Brakpan man of a substantial amount of cash on the N17, in Freeway Park, on Friday, July 14.

According to Boksburg SAPS spokesperson Sgt Cebisa Maseko, the victim was driving in a Hyundai i20 with his friend at about 10am, when the ‘police officers’ in a white BMW used a flashing blue light to pull them over.

Carrying firearms and dressed in police uniform, the impersonators approached the car and ordered the driver and his friend to get out as they wanted to search it.

The suspects searched the car and took cash before grabbing the victims’ cellphones and speeding off in the BMW.

The victim claims the cash amounted to R31 000.

* In a separate incident of this nature, two men posing as police officers hijacked a man on Atlas Road, near Dunswart, late last month.

The man was in a company vehicle, a white Isuzu bakkie, at about 9am, when he was pulled over by bogus police officers using a blue flashing light on the dashboard of their unmarked white Polo Vivo.

The men, one of them wearing a police uniform, accosted the victim and pointed a firearm at him while instructing him to get out of the vehicle.

They then covered his head and face with a wool hat, dragged him into their Polo Vivo and drove with him to Dube railway station where they dumped him.

A search for the stolen car and the suspects is still underway. @FanieFLK
