Can you make a wish come true for Cansa?

The Cancer Association of South Africa (Cansa) calls on the public to get involved in Mandela Day.

They can do so by fulfilling the wish lists of the 11 Cansa Care Homes and various Cansa TLC Lodges across the country.

The food wish list includes Rooibos tea, green beans, peaches, pilchards in tomato sauce, baked beans, sweetcorn, long-life custard, long-life milk, milk powder, oil, brown sugar, brown onion and mushroom soup packets, maizena, maize meal, salt, pepper, barbeque spice, chicken spice, paprika, Weet-Bix, soya mince, jelly, peanut butter, marmite/bovril, tuna, rice and pasta.

Cansa’s head of service delivery Gerda Strauss said: “Many South Africans live in poverty and having cancer compounds the difficulty for patients.

“One way that we can help ease this burden is to encourage companies and people to assist by putting together some care kits or packages for our Care Homes where we host cancer patients who are undergoing cancer treatment and parents of children undergoing treatment, via our CANSA TLC programme.”

Strauss said they need food, toiletries and general items to help support cancer patients.

“By donating any of these items, we’ll be able to continue offering support to cancer patients and their families and assist in lightening the burden of poverty.”

The toiletries wish list includes: Soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, facecloths, towels, toilet paper and sanitary towels.

Other items that can help are also small to extra-large female winter tracksuits, socks, beanies, scarves, books, single bed sheets and pillow cases.

“If you’re not able to put a care package together, you can always donate R67 towards the care of a patient or Cansa’s support programmes by making a safe online donation on Cansa’s website or at the nearest Cansa Care Centre,” Strauss said.
