Raiger Park patrollers equipped with new uniforms
The Gauteng Department of Community Safety equipped the Reiger Park community patrollers with new uniforms on Tuesday, June 27.
The uniforms will be used when carrying out their duties in the township.
The programme was set up by the Department of Community Safety and Security and is managed by the CPF.
The main role of the patrollers is to be the eyes and ears to help keep the community safe from criminals.
Reiger Park SAPS spokesperson, Sgt Mashudu Phathela, conceded that to some degree the police in Reiger Park rely on information from the patrollers and the public to help them keep the community safe.
“Their service is certainly more effective in reducing the high level of crime within our policing precinct and their support is of great value. As the police we are appreciative of all your efforts,” said Phathela.
The Reiger Park patrollers consist of 44 volunteers mainly from Ramaphosa.
Patroller groups are trained and are accountable to CPF structures which are legislated bodies.
The Reiger Park police encourage residents of Reiger Park to join the CPF and register as a patroller.
To become a patroller you must have no criminal record and you work as a volunteer.
