World renowned beer-brewing gurus set to visit Birchwood
South African brewers are in for a treat again this year as the third edition of Beer Boot Camp is set to take place at the Birchwood Hotel on July 8.

This conference focuses on delivering a high-quality educational experience to South African home and commercial brewers,
Delegates will hear from leading brewing specialists from around the world. They will not only be able to experience practical sessions and beer tasting, but will also have the opportunity to network and socialise.
The following presenters and presentations will take place:
John Palmer, author of best-selling book, How to brew, will be presenting a talk on ‘Water in brewing’, and ‘Diacetyl during fermentation’ – based on some brand new research he has conducted for the latest edition of ‘How to Brew’.
Stan Hieronymus, author of ‘Brew like a Monk’ and ‘For the love of Hops’ will be presenting ‘Creating and preserving hop aroma and flavour’ and ‘Foraging for your brew’- a concept that he covers in his latest book ‘Brewing Local’.
Michael Ferguson, the host of the TV show, Beer Geeks, will present a talk on ’12 steps to a perfect brewery’.
Neva Parker, vice president of operations at White Labs Yeast, will present a talk on ‘Starting a lab in your brewery’, and some tests brewers should be doing. This will include some practical work as well.
Pete Brown, top UK writer of books such as ‘Hops and Glory’ and ‘Miracle Brew’ – to mention a few – has just been named British Guild of Beer Writers ‘Beer Writer of the Year’, for the third time. He will entertain us with his beer and music pairing.
Finally, Stuart Thompson will be sharing his years of experience and knowledge as a beverage sector investment analyst to help brewers look at the money side of owning a brewery.
Along with the informative sessions, delegates will get to meet brewers from some great local breweries, including Stimela and Two Okes Brewery, and enjoy their beer ‘on tap’ throughout the day.
At the SAB Trade Show Area adjacent to the conference, brewers can network with suppliers of brewing ingredients and learn about new equipment on offer from companies including BrewCraft SA, White Labs Yeast and Africa Hops.
