Well-known pharmacist Pep Manolas passes away
Respected local pharmacist Pep Manolas died on May 16.
He had been in Sunward Park for more than 30 years, improving the health of the community for decades.
Manolas leaves behind his two sons Jason and Viron Manolas, as well as grandchildren Eleni, Achilles and Theodore Manolas.
He was born in Germiston on January 28, 1940, and bought Sunward Park Pharmacy in 1986.
According to Manolas’s son Jason, he was a very hard-working person and, regardless of the role he took on, he stood apart as someone unique.
“He made extremely powerful contributions, especially in pharmacy, and had a gift of innovative thinking which he utilised in all areas of his life.
“He was a visionary spirit and had the tenacity required for meaningful leadership.
“He was committed to serve, with his main focus being on the Community Pharmacy Sector.”
Manolas was well liked by everyone in the community, many even referring to him as an institution in Sunward Park.
He forged meaningful long-term relationships with his clients, colleagues and staff.
His aim was always to fulfil in the health-care needs of the community. He was known to be tough but fair.
His philanthropic activities included supporting the local schools Hoërskool Oosterlig and Laerskool Elspark.
Oliver’s House and The Haven Care Centre are two of the many charity organisations that he held close to his heart.
In honouring his legacy, the staff at Sunward Park Pharmacy strives to deliver the same level of service that Manolas aspired to for the past 31 years.
