KTVR bus project rolls along speedily
KTVR Bus Services recently held a stakeholders’ engagement forum to update members on how the metro’s new bus project is unfolding.
KTVR Bus Services is a private company that operates the interim service of the Harambee Intergrated Rapid Public Transport Network phase one.
The bus route will eventually run from Tembisa Hospital and will end at the Vosloorus Hospital via OR Tambo and Boksburg.
‘KTVR’ is an acronym for Kempton Park, Tembisa, Vosloorus and Reiger Park, the areas in which the BRT will be operating.
Phase one includes testing the route running along Tembisa, Rhodesfield and Isando.
According to Bhuthi Mahlangu, public relations director, they are still testing the bus system without passengers.
Mahlako Mogoashane, operations manager at KTVR, gave an update on what they have implemented so far.
“We are busy with the test service, which started on April 25, using two buses and two routes. A week ago we added four buses, so we have six buses on the same two routes, which run from Isando and Rhodefield. We have faced certain technical issues, which are being resolved.
“We have covered close to 10 997km so far. We are confident the drivers will be able to manage the timetable when the system is fully up and running,” Mogoashane said.
She said the preparations at the depot are nearly complete.
