Family robbed in Mapleton, held hostage

Dawn Park police are searching for seven men who held hostage a family of five and robbed them of their belongings in Mapleton, on May 30.

The incident happened around 9am yesterday (May 30) at the Mapleton Plots.

According to Dawn Park SAPS spokesperson, Const Nkemeleng Mabula, the seven broke into the house and held the occupants – two women en three men – hostage.

“The suspects stole a firearm, Samsung tablet, cellphone, laptop and a jewellery safe from the house and fled the scene. They also tried to open another safe but failed,” Mabula said.

The family sustained no injuries.

Police are appealing for information that may lead to the arrest of the suspects.
