Metro looking at new system to curb housing issues

The City of Ekurhuleni is in consultation with Gauteng Human Settlement to prepare an all-inclusive Housing Registration Plan that will be implemented in all customer care centres and identified venues in targeted communities.

This intervention is set to end community complaints and confusion around matters of housing allocation.

Recently, Reiger Park residents took to the streets, demanding to see the housing list of beneficiaries for a new mega housing development near Reiger Park.

According to Thema Gadebe, metro spokesperson, the all-inclusive registration plan will address this concern before end July.

“The metro will communicate confirmed dates for checking, updating of personal details and registration to the Reiger Park residents and all other affected communities.

“This inclusive plan ends a registration process, which had begun in Reiger Park in order to accommodate a comprehensive method.

“The municipality apologises to the community of Reiger Park for the abrupt stopping of the registration process, but assures them that the implementation of the inclusive plan will be more efficient in addressing challenges around the housing list,” said Gadebe.
