Hijacker traced, arrested month after committing crime

A hijacker was arrested in Alexandra, Johannesburg, on May 7, in connection with a hijacking which took place in Boksburg on April 9.

The complainant stopped in his driveway in Witfield at about 7.20pm.

He was talking to his friends in the vehicle, before getting out, when a silver Renault parked behind them.

According to the Boksburg North SAPS communication officer, Capt Juanita Coetzer, two men approached them, pointed a firearm at them and ordered them to get out of the vehicle. The suspects then jumped into the vehicle and drove off.

Coetzer said the complainant’s cellphone was still in the vehicle when the suspects fled.

“He traced the phone and gave the details to Det-WO Robert Ngomane who followed up and arrested a suspect,” said Coetzer.

He was detained at the Boksburg North SAPS.
