Boksburg quiet as anti-Zuma protest marches hit SA

So far the Advertiser has not heard of any protest marches taking place in Boksburg.

Protests are held countrywide following President Jacob Zuma’s recent cabinet reshuffle.

The Advertiser is aware of a march that is taking place in Benoni (Northmead).

There were also protests along the R21 but is it understood the highway is now open.

In Johannesburg, protesting residents have all but stopped traffic going south on Beyers Naudé Drive near the N1 Highway, and have blocked one lane going south near the Roosevelt Park substation.

Motorists are urged to find alternate routes where possible.

Around 10 000 protesters are expected at the DA’s march at Mary Fitzgerald Square, while residents are also gathering at Beyers Naudé Drive, the Roosevelt Park substation, Hendrik Potgieter Road in Roodepoort, Witkoppen Road, and along Conrad Drive in Blairgowrie today.

In Pretoria the Save SA campaign has organised a march to the Union Buildings calling for President Jacob Zuma to step down.

The Save SA campaign had been forced to  approach the courts at the last minute on Thursday for an urgent interdict after it was told that its protest march, calling for  Zuma to step down, would not be allowed. The march will take place from Church Square to the Union Buildings.

A night vigil was also held last night in Pretoria and Cape Town by members of SaveSa in requesting the president of the republic to step down.

The presidency issued a statement saying they would not oppose the march.
