Metro provides solution to Boksburg’s power outages

The Ekurhuleni Metro has from Friday, March 3 implemented a project that will see 1.2km of ageing and frequently failing medium voltage underground cables being replaced in the Boksburg areas of Witkoppie Ridge and Impala Park.

The Ekurhuleni Metro employees working on the open tranches as part of the City’s bid to cub power outages in Boksburg.

According to the Themba Gadebe, metro spokesperson, a number of streets in the above-mentioned areas will be simultaneously dug up during this period to make way for the one month long underground cable replacement work that is expected to stabilise electricity supply in the area.

“The streets to be affected include among others Trichardts, Dassen and Brand,” said Gadebe.

The R1.5m budget has been set aside for this project.

The number of unplanned power interruptions is expected to reduce in direct relation to the completion and energization of each cable feeder.

“The metro will continue monitoring and analysing the network performance to ensure timeous interventions are implemented as-and-when required to reduce electricity downtime.

“The metro apologises for the inconvenience caused and appeals for residents’ patience during this period.”
