Taegrin Morris’ parents still waiting for answers two years after their son’s murder

The parents of Taegrin Morris told the Advertiser that they cannot find closure until the people who killed their son, more than two years ago, are brought to justice.

It’s been more than two years since Taegrin Morris, who was at the time aged four, was dragged to his death, but nobody has been formally charged with any crime in relation to the case.

The couple has since the incident been blessed with another son, Braylin, who is now six months old.

The case stunned the community and became a cold case that has baffled police for more than two years now.

“The lead investigators keep on making empty promises. We share information of the suspected perpetrators with them, but nothing has happened,” said Taegrin’s father, Elwin Morris.

He also stressed the need for the arrests of his son’s killers, stating that revelation about the murder of his son is one of the things that can bring some measure of solace to the family after years of trauma.

Taegrin’s father is also concerned that the killers are still roaming the streets and apparently targeting other families.

Chantal Morris had loaded her son, Taegrin, and the boy’s sister, Erim, into their VW Golf outside their grandmother’s house in Reiger Park when three hijackers held guns to her head, demanding the car keys.

The hijackers got into the VW Golf and sped off with Taegrin’s leg still trapped in his seat belt, and with him hanging helplessly out of the door.

In the weeks that followed, a man, whom the family apparently identified as one of the suspects, was brought in and questioned, but he was never charged with any crime.

Although SAPS management gave the assurance that detectives would do their best to bring the criminals responsible for the incident to book, no one has ever been named a suspect and police do not have any new leads.

A R50 000 reward was offered to anyone with information that might lead to the arrests of the hijackers, but the money did nothing to persuade anyone to come clean.

According to Reiger Park SAPS spokesperson, Sgt Mashudu Phathela, investigations in the murder case are still ongoing, and he asked anyone with information that can lead to an arrest to come forward.

Phathela, however, stated that the information received so far has failed to yield positive results.

It was previously rumoured that the killing was committed by people known to the community.

The rumours were investigated, but yielded nothing.
