School fight: Boksburg High learners to attend a hearing

Boksburg High School has responded to a video in which two of its learners are seen involved in a fight outside the school premises.

Principal Jan du Plessis said the school is aware of the February 8 incident and added that rumours are that the boys were fighting over a girl.

He said the two learners have been suspended from school and both of them will attend a hearing on Monday, February 20.

Du Plessis, however, said the two will be allowed to write assessments because “we put the education of our learners first as we know that they are children and they need to be disciplined in a proper manner”.

“On Tuesday, February 7 there was a scuffle between the two boys outside the school. They were then brought to me and we phoned their parents. Little did we know that on Wednesday the fight will continue.

“We knew about the video on Thursday and we then took disciplinary actions.

“The two boys seen in the video who are not wearing uniform are not from the school. It was a shock to us as nothing like this has never happened as we put the safety and well-being of our learners first.

“We control our learners when inside our premises but when they are outside we can’t control them,” said the principal.

He said they are aware that both learners have opened counter cases with the police.

The hearing will be conducted by members of the School Governing Body (SGB) and the learners will be represented by their parents.

The two learners are in Grade 10 and 11.
