SADAG sets up support group meetings in Benoni

South African Depression and Anxiety Group (SADAG) has launched a support group in Benoni.

Charlette de Villiers, the support group leader from Benoni, invites people suffering from depression and anxiety, and their loved ones, to attend her free support group meetings.

These meetings take place at the Manger Care Centre (8 Kirschner Road, Brentwood Park, Benoni) every Monday from 7pm to 8pm.

Support group leaders play an important role in assisting those living with mental health issues to manage the symptoms, understand what to expect from treatment and be able to give practical self-help tips.

Support groups can offer people living with depression, anxiety, stress, trauma and other mental illnesses, a place of warmth, understanding and support.

These benefits can be extended to their friends and family members by providing them with helpful tips on how to assist their loved ones and how to recognise the signs and symptoms of the various mental illnesses.

SADAG provides training, information, materials, guest speakers and practical guidelines for anyone interested in running mental health support groups.

SADAG will also render free telephonic counselling and referrals, to the support group members, as required.

For more information contact SADAG on 0800 12 13 14.
