Twins collect 100kg of bottle tops

Local twins Chifundo (10) and Chisomo (10) Kammasamba collected over a 100kg of plastic bottle tops, in a Heckers Garden Club recycling challenge.

When Heckers Garden Club mentioned that Heckers Nursery were collecting plastic bottle tops, Brenda McSweeney put up a notice at the Alan Woodrow Retirement Village – to urge residents to bring her their tops.

One of the women there, Faye Baretta, mentioned that to Barbara Ives – who employs the twins’ parents – and that’s how the twins got involved, to see who could collect the most tops.

Brenda said they evidently collected tops on the way home from their school: Thulasizwe Primary School in Boksburg.

This project is run by Interwaste and companies are required to collect 450kg of plastic tops; in return for which they earn a wheelchair, to give to a worthy person.
