Water crisis hits some parts of Boksburg again
The whole of Boksburg South, Parkdene, Parkrand, Cinderella and some other parts of the city have again been without water since Monday, November 14.
Last week the areas were also without water.
Residents from the affected areas have raised their concerns about the frequent water issues in the area.
According to Boksburg South resident Harries Bester, they have been without water since Monday until today, November 16.
“I am so angry, because we received no notice from the municipality that the water would be switched off. We are not satisfied at all with the water services we are receiving lately.
“Every week we have to deal with dry taps in our homes. I can’t even brush my teeth and hair because there is no water,” Bester said.
The Advertiser spoke to councillors Ruhan Robinson of ward 22 and Jacky Reilley of ward 31, who were at the reservoir site in Boksburg, to find out what is happening from the officials who were also on site today, to inspect the water levels.
Reilly said the situation needs urgent attention.
“We have been told by the officials that the water is starting to fill up, but is still between 50 per cent to 60 per cent, which is not enough for everyone,” he added.
”I know our country is facing a crisis at the moment, but an intervention programme needs to be put in place to restore water in the affected areas, because we can’t let people battle for three days without water,” Reilley said.
According to Robinson, he received a message from the engineers informing residents that there will be water supply interruptions, on November 15 to November 16, to raise the water levels in Boksburg East, South and the Industries, Libradene, Parkrand, Parkdene, Cinderella, some parts of the Boksburg CBD, Van Dyk Park and East Village.
The message also says that water tankers will be dispatched to these areas.
“What I don’t understand is why the municipality don’t keep their promises; the message states that the water will be restored at 5am today, but so far there’s no sign of water,” Robinson said.
The Advertiser is still waiting for a response from the metro.
This comes after water interruptions were reported last week, November 7, in the same areas. However, on November 8, the water was restored to the affected areas.
According to Siphokazi Gunya, from the Department of Water and Sanitation, the affected areas were without water last week, following the shutting down of water in the evening (water shedding).
