Operations mounted to rescue man believed to have fallen down mineshaft

Search and rescue teams worked for days to rescue a man who reportedly fell into what is thought to be an old mineshaft near Wit Deep and Main Reef Road, in Witfield on October 18.

According to the Boksburg North SAPS spokesperson, Capt Juanita Coetzer, authorities were informed that someone had fallen down the abandoned mineshaft.

Ekurhuleni rescue teams were called in after the police were alerted to the incident.

The rescue crews from the metro and the SAPS were joined by mine rescue teams to save the unknown person said to have fallen into the shaft.

No one was found and the search was later called off. -@FanieFLK
