Weekend crime snippets

Some of the serious crimes reported to the Boksburg police over the weekend.

Theft

A municipal security officer was arrested after he was allegedly found in possession of goods apparently stolen from the Ekurhuleni municipal offices in the Boksburg CBD.

According to a police report, the security guard was arrested near the civic centre on October 9.

The arrests came after one of the other security officers noticed his colleague’s suspicious behaviour.

Possession of ammunition

An Angelo informal settlement resident fighting for his life in hospital after being beaten up by angry community members for making death threats.

The man reportedly entered a yard in the settlement on October 9, and allegedly told the occupants of the property that many people would be killed over the weekend, while also showing them live ammunition. Community members heard about the threats and began hunting for the man who, they felt, was a threat to the public safety.

Moments later, the crowd finally found the man and repeatedly lashed him. The police were then called and allegedly found four live rounds of ammunition in the man’s possession.

He was taken to hospital, where he remains under police guard. The suspect will appear in court for possession of ammunition once he is discharged from hospital.

Rape

A man was arrested for allegedly raping a woman at knife-point, in the Angelo informal settlement, on October 9.
