Domestic worker held after Sunward Park house robbery

A domestic worker has been arrested for her alleged role in a house robbery at her employer’s house, on Gesternte Road, Sunward Park.

The robbery occurred on Monday, October 3, shortly after midday.

The now detained domestic worker and her employers’ children were at home when two men, reportedly driving in a black VW Polo, apparently entered the property, and started ransacking the house.

They made off with valuable goods, including a TV set and amplifier.

One of the children managed to report the incident to her parents, who later arrived home to find that their belongings had been stolen.

No one was injured in the robbery and no shots were fired.

Swift reaction by members of the Boksburg Vispol, Boksburg detectives, Tsakane SAPS, Cluster Trio Task team and E-Track resulted in the arrest of one of the suspected robbers.

The team discovered that there was something more to this robbery than meets the eye, and they delved deeper into the matter.

The investigation led them to the domestic worker, who was arrested for her alleged role in the crime.

The driver of the getaway vehicle was also taken in for questioning.

The stolen goods have not yet been recovered, but investigations are continuing.

In the light of this incident, police are urging residents to always run security checks on people they intend to hire as their domestic workers. This includes investigating for possible criminal records, taking fingerprints, and checking IDs and passports.

In another crime story, a man told the police that he was stopped and then robbed of R24 450 by two men posing as police officers, on Saturday, October 1.

The man said he had withdrawn the money from one of the banks in the Boksburg CBD, but while he was walking along Leeuwpoort Street, on his way to the taxi rank, two men driving in an unmarked vehicle approached him, and introduced themselves as police officers, while flashing what resembled police identity cards.

They reportedly asked the victim to jump into the car, as they wanted to go with him to the police station.

All of a sudden the thugs pointed a firearm at the victim, took his money and drove away fast.
