Biker killed in collision with truck on Jubilee Road

A biker, believed to be in his 50s, has been killed after he collided with a truck at the traffic lights in Jubilee Road, Boksburg South, earlier today (October 4).

The Ekurhuleni Metro Police Department’s Thabiso Makgato said the driver of a white Tata truck alleged that he was travelling direction east when the traffic light turned red and he then stopped.

Makgato said the driver then heard a knock at the back of the truck.

“The truck driver found upon investigation it was a biker that collided with him from behind and the biker was declared dead on the scene.”

An eye witness described the incident as ‘quite dramatic’.

According to the witness, it appeared as if the biker had suffered horrible injuries.

Paramedics from the ER24 Jhb East branch arrived on the scene and found a large truck on the one side of the road while the wrecked motorbike lay on the opposite side of the road.

According to Russel Meiring of ER24, the body of the bike was found only a few feet away from his vehicle.

“An off-duty paramedic was found on scene assessing the patient.

“On assessment, paramedics found that the man had sustained numerous, fatal injuries. Unfortunately, the man had already succumbed to his injuries. Nothing more could be done and he was pronounced dead on the scene,” said Meiring.

Makgato said the EMPD officer who attended the accident will open up a case for culpable homicide while investigations are underway.
