St Dominic’s School adopts endangered bears

On the coldest day of every year, the St Dominic’s girls and staff plunge into icy water and swim across the 25m length of their school swimming pool.

They call this the Polar Plunge and girls are encouraged to make a donation towards a worthy cause.

On Wednesday, September 14, St Dominic’s used the money raised to adopt two Spectacled Bears at the Johannesburg Zoo.

Spectacled bears are an endangered species - there are only between 2 000 and 2 400 of them left in the wild.
