Murder up by 4.7 per cent in Gauteng
The crime statistics for 2015/16 financial year shows that more people are being killed in Gauteng.
this province murder cases rose from 3671 in 2014/15 to 3842 in 2015/16, an increase of 171 incidents.
Police also said these contact crimes remained “stubborn”.
More cars have also been hijacked compared to 2014/15, with the stats showing an increase of 500 cases from 6867 in 2014/15.
However, the stats showed a drop in burglary at residential premises, from 66172 in 2014/15 to 64 962 in 2015/16.
The number of people who drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs has also risen from 25794 to 32287 in the 2015/16 year.
Regarding drug related crimes, police made 55 442 arrests compared to the previous period’s 70 264.
