Crawford to prioritise Leeupoort development

Long-time Ward 34 councillor Charlie Crawford will focus most of his energies for the next five years on the Leeupoort mega-development taking place in proximity to Reiger Park .

Crawford, who has been re-elected as ward councillor in his ward, which covers the challenging suburb of Reiger Park, known for its crime and drugs, said the development could possibly be the answer to the many backroom and shack dwellers who are in need of houses in the area he serves.

“The development is my top priority and I want to see it come to fruition. The fact that I serve in the oversight committee in the Human Settlements Department is a plus,” said Crawford.

He will, however, not disregard other pressing issues.

The said development would consist of 339 erven, zoned residential 3 (200 square meters bonded stands), 158 erven, zoned residential 4 (112 square meters subsidised stands), 120 units, zoned residential 4 (120 units per hectare), 160 zoned residential 4 (160 units per hectare), 180 units zoned residential 4 (180 units per hectare), which means 957 units in total, which is not part of approximately 1 000 erven currently being developed.

Ward 34 consists of Reiger Park, Kalamazoo informal settlement and the old mine hostel.

He thanked residents for voting for change and promised them that change will indeed come.
