The five-day-long campaign was launched on Monday, August 22, and will see the Eskom teams visiting Vosloorus, Katlehong, Duduza, Petit and Tembisa.
During the campaign, the public will also receive tips on how to use energy more efficiently.
According to Eskom, deaths and severe injuries due to the unsafe use of electricity, such as illegal connections, are most prevalent in the city.
“Innocent lives are lost and many others are changed for the worse, as a result of unnecessary contact with electricity due to illegal connections and other unsafe use of electricity,” said a spokesperson for the compny.
“Unfortunately, children often fall victim to such illicit acts.”
For that reason, the parastatal is committed to reducing these incidents.
Members of the public are also asked to play their role in saving people’s lives by reporting any illegal connections or power outages to the Eskom Contact Centre, on 08600 37566 (24hrs), or by texting (SMS) your query and account number/meter number to 35328 (Elect).
