EMPD nab 16 traffic fine dodgers in R21 operation
The EMPD Warrant Section officers, in search of traffic fines dodgers, conducted an operation on the R21 freeway in both directions between the Griffiths turn-off and North Rand Road in Boksburg on Wednesday, August 17.
The operation was conducted between 10am and 12.30pm by 24 officers.
EMPD spokesperson Lieut-Col Wilfred Kgasago said 16 motorists who had failed to pay their traffic fines as well as disrespected the courts for not contesting their fines were detained.
Fortunately for them, said Kgasago, they decided to settle on the spot an amount owed, totalling R13 200.

Kgasago said 50 other motorists, on being made aware of their outstanding traffic fines, made a sensible decision to pay immediately on the spot to avert a situation of having to contend with a warrant. They parted with a total amount of R22 000.
Over and above, added Kgasago, 13 fines were issued for various other offences.
“Once again, motorists are urged to regularly check their status regarding traffic fines to avoid inconvenience and a situation where they have to suddenly part with huge amounts or face jail time.”
