The 25-year-old Thomas Shihlure was allegedly beaten up by an angry mob after he and his accomplices attempted to rob another man.
According to the police report, the initial victim, a man, was walking along the street in Angelo informal settlement during the wee hours of Saturday, July 30, when he was intercepted by the trio, who allegedly demanded his belongings.
The robbery victim reportedly resisted his attackers, while screaming for help.
Upon hearing the screams of the victim, locals rushed to the spot and caught one of the alleged gang, Shihlure, while the others managed to flee the scene.
The suspect was then subjected to a severe beating, which left him dead on the scene.
His body was later found by police, lying on the ground with multiple head injuries.
Along with Shihlure’s father, the deceased’s wife arrived at the scene, carrying their newborn baby, to identify Shihlure’s body.
A case of murder has been registered at the Boksburg Police Station, and the investigation continues.
So far, no arrests have been made in connection with the mob attack.
While the Boksburg police welcome community involvement in the war against crime, the police discourage people from taking the law into their own hands and caution that those found to be breaking the law will be dealt with accordingly.
Citizens are urged to always hand over those who have been found committing crimes to police, instead of taking action on their own.
Anyone with information regarding the suspects involved in this murder is asked to come forward, so that those responsible can be arrested. -@FanieFLK
