Fight over boyfriend earns arsonist four-year prison term
The following cases were heard in the Boksburg Magistrate's Court:

* Mavis Mathale (22) of Mandela section in Angelo informal settlement was convicted of arson and housebreaking with intent to assault and assault on July 29.
On May 8, the accused went to Lindi Sikhona Retsha’s shack in search of her boyfriend.
Upon arriving at the shack, she knocked but no one opened.
She then forced the door open and started slapping Lindi with open hands and pulling her hair in the process.
She then set her shack on fire, destroying it.
Mathale has no previous conviction.
She pleaded guilty to all the charges and was found guilty as charged.
She was sentenced to four years imprisonment for arson and three years imprisonment for housebreaking with intent to assault and assault.
The court ordered the sentences to run concurrently, meaning she has been sentenced to an effective four years in prison.
Magistrate Colbert Ramufhufhi presided and prosecutor Takalani Mukhomu represented the state.
* Allen Bodley (31) of Boksburg was convicted of malicious damage to property on July 28.
The accused damaged four doors belonging to Glen Allen Bodley on June 26.
He pleaded guilty and the court also found him guilty as charged.
The accused has a previous conviction of crimen injuria where he paid an admission of guilt fine in 2011.
He was sentenced to three months in jail, suspended for five years.
Magistrate Valencia Josias presided and prosecutor India Roos represented the state.
* Carlos Manyike (42) of Ramaphosa informal settlement was convicted of possession of drugs on July 29.
On April 13, the Mozambican national was found in possession of 22 small packets of cannabis.
He has no prior conviction and was given a R4 000 fine or four months in jail.
The court imposed a further four-month sentence suspended for five years.
Magistrate Ryan van Harte presided and prosecutor Tashnee Ramchuran represented the state.
* Michelle Callitz (36) of Bardene was convicted of 23 counts of theft on July 29.
The accused stole monies totalling R487 500 from SPF Trading or Peter Rademeyer between the period of November 29, 2010 to January 12, 2012.
She was a personal assistant to Rademeyer.
She was sentenced to eight years in prison wholly suspended for five years on condition that she:
– Pay the complainant R500 000 within 24 hours of the sentence.
– She does not commit a similar offence in the next five years.
– She is subjected to three years correctional supervision in terms of section 276 (1) (H).
The accused has no previous conviction.
