SSP recruits high potential and excellent Grade Six scholars and enables them to attend top schools in the Gauteng, Eastern Cape, KwaZulu-Natal and Western Cape areas.
The scholars are mainly recruited from township school areas, often with involvement from community-based centres and local libraries.
A potential SSP candidate scholar is academically excellent and one who demonstrates an ability to lead, is a highly motivated individual, driven to succeed and committed to impacting positively on their communities.

SSP’s vision is to develop leaders who are committed to creating a society required by the South African Constitution: a non-racist, non-sexist, democratic and prosperous South Africa.
Potential candidate scholars are required to demonstrate integrity, excellence, leadership and professionalism.
All scholars and alumni continue to live the SSP values.
Good examples are Lesego Sithole, a SSP scholar at St Stithians Boys’ College, who is a top achiever in Grade Eight for the first academic term, and Busisiwe Sibeko, who recently graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Economics from Duke University, in the United States of America.
Scholars who meet the following criteria are invited to apply for the SSP Opportunity:
• Be in Grade Six to apply and not be older than 12 years.
• Achieve an average of 70 per cent or more in maths and English.
• Have leadership potential.
• Must participate in extramural activities.
• Be community service orientated.
• Demonstrate a financial need.
Application forms are available on the SSP’s website at www.ssp.org.za.
Forms will also be placed at libraries and schools around Gauteng.
