Manhole lids stolen in Groeneweide, suspect caught on camera

Groeneweide resident, Andre van Staden, is concerned about the stealing of manhole lids in the area.

Van Staden said on July 13 that he had witnessed an unknown man in a white bakkie loading a manhole lid into his bakkie at corner of Robben and Tunny streets in Groeneweide.

“It is not the first time I’ve seen something like this. That is why I decided to take a picture of the bakkie but I couldn’t capture the number plates.

“Had I been able to capture the registration of car, I would’ve gone to the police station to report this crime.

“Something has to be done to prevent this as these people who are stealing these manhole lids are putting our lives in danger.

“Our children can accidentally fall into the manhole because it is not covered,” van Staden said.
