Huge bust as EMPD seize drugs valued at R28-m

The EMPD SWAT Unit members’ arrested a suspect on Friday, July 1 for being in possession of large quantities of Cat valued at R28-million.

According to Lieut Col Wilfred Kgasago, EMPD spokesperson, the arrest follows a month long monitoring of the man, suspected to be a distributor of the drug in Boksburg.

“Before pouncing on the suspect, who was at the time in a shop selling cloth materials on First Street in Boksburg North, the Swat Unit members beefed up their numbers by requesting backup from the EMPD K9 Unit members,” said Kgasago.

“At exactly 4.20pm, the Metro Police swooped on the backrooms of the shop where they arrested the Nigerian national.

“In total 23 ziplocks, three small packets and 26 large blocks of Cat were seized.

“The man was immediately apprehended and charged at Boksburg North police station with possession and dealing in an illicit substance.”

* The suspect (34) is expected to appear in the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday (July 4).
