Demolition work on Gino’s Building progresses smoothly
The demolition work on the derelict, double-storey building at 39 Market Street, in the Boksburg CBD, is progressing fast, safely and smoothly.

The Advertiser visited the site this morning (Monday, June 6) to inspect the work done.
The demolition site foreman told us that the project is at an advanced stage, adding that there has been more than 50 per cent progress since the commencement of the demolition work that started on Wednesday, last week (June 1).
Demolition crews from Rembu Construction started the massive demolition process to make way for new development.

Accompanied by municipal officials, Ekurhuleni mayor Mondli Gungubele was on site as a backhoe digger began pulling apart the structure that once housed a pharmaceutical company, post office, bars and restaurants and, at one stage, destitute people.
Gungubele told journalists that the demolition of such buildings is part of a huge campaign aimed at creating conditions that enhance the implementation of the city’s development plans.
The demolition comes years after residents of Boksburg first asked the city to take down the structure or lease it to the private sector – because they felt it was spoiling their beautiful town and attracting criminals.
There was manifest relief among residents, including community leaders, at the decision to tear down the undesirable structure. -@FanieFLK
