The Mayor of Ekurhuleni Clr Mondli Gungubele has expressed his sadness and shock at the death of six people in two separate incidents in the city of Ekurhuleni.

Four women were killed when a white Camry struck them while walking on a footpath along Main Reef Road in Boksburg, on Thursday morning, June 2.

The other horrific deaths happened in Pomona, Kempton Park, where two people were burnt to ashes, and a third person badly injured, when a construction site caught fire in the early hours of June 2.

“This is certainly not the way everyone hopes to begin their day.

“These were mothers, fathers, brothers, sisters and loved ones to others and yet now they are gone,” said Gungubele adding that he is struggling to comprehend the two incidents.

The survivors remain critical in hospital.

“Although the facts are not clear as to what happened in both incidents, we are optimistic that investigations will reveal the truth.

The city wishes those in hospital a speedy recovery, and has extended its condolences to the families of those killed in these horrific incidents.
